100 years of tradition: Avantgarde St. Hubertus celebrates big in Scheidingen!
The Avantgarde St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft Scheidingen is proudly celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The anniversary celebration will take place on June 7, 2025 with an extensive festival program in the Scheidingen Schützenhalle. The celebrations begin at 3:00 p.m. with the arrival of the clubs, followed by a commanders' meeting at 3:30 p.m. Speeches and a parade are on the agenda at 4:30 p.m. before the traditional bird shooting begins in Bisping's forest at 6:00 p.m. A highlight of the evening will be the proclamation and presentation of the medal at 7:30 p.m., before DJ R-Sonico (Robert Malcher) provides musical accompaniment to the celebration at 8:00 p.m., reports Soester Anzeiger.
The guard was founded a hundred years ago as the Avantgarde Scheidingen-Illingen and has gone through significant changes since then. The separation from the Avantgarde Illingen took place 74 years ago. According to former commanders Matthias Emgenbroich and Martin Horstmann, the change in the Guard is also reflected in the membership structure. 15 to 20 years ago there was a decline in young members, but the current situation brings hope: this year, nine new guardsmen joined, so that the vanguard has now grown to around 20 active members. The new commander Julius Volmer has led the group since 2025 and highlights the challenges and joy of organizing the anniversary.
Tradition and community
Traditions have a high priority in the avant-garde. For example, standing in trellises is still practiced at weddings. A significant event in the club's history was the Gardeball in 2006, which attracted a lot of attention with 300 guests. The Guard also joined the Association of Avant-Gardes of the Niederbörde in 2008. The first Easter fires were organized in 2004, and the first Easter glow took place at the Schützenhalle in 2025. Community life has been a central aspect of the club's activities since its founding.
The Guard can also look back on a long history: in 1961 it received its first banner, which has since been updated twice, most recently in 2025. A total of 19 avant-gardes as well as the Waltringen Rifle Brotherhood and the Illingen Rifle Club are invited to the anniversary celebration. The Guard will also be active at the Children's Shooting Festival and take part in various festivals to uphold tradition and community.
Festivities in Shooting
Parallel to the celebrations in Scheidingen, the Hubertus shooting club also celebrated its 100th anniversary. Loud Hubertus shooting The anniversary celebration opened with a celebratory service in the Church of the Nativity of Mary in Schützen, in which many fellow riflemen took part in traditional costumes with their families. Afterwards there was a parade to the clubhouse, accompanied by flag bearers and the traditional Schützenband. The guests were welcomed into the hall with cold beer and a quickly eaten meal.
Mayor and district rifleman Karl-Heinz Schittenhelm gave speeches and Karin Gerstlauer presented a short version of the club's history. The awards ceremony for the 22nd KK Hobby Village Championship was also held. These celebrations underline the importance of the shooting tradition in the region and the joy of communal celebration and coming together.
