Danger of storms at Pentecost: Is summer coming back in Saarland?
In the last few days the weather in Saarland has been anything but summery. As the Saarbrücken newspaper Reportedly, thunderstorms and heavy rain showers dominated the atmosphere, while numerous clouds darkened the sky. The reason for this unpleasant weather change is a low from the far north, whose influence was also clearly noticeable in Saarland.
However, the outlook for the next few days could improve. A high pressure area over northern Italy is expected to gain influence in the coming days. The forecasts from the German Weather Service (DWD) indicate that this could lead to a change in the weather. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether this change will be noticeable at Pentecost.
Current weather conditions and forecast
In its current weather forecast, the DWD shows that a westerly current with low branches dominates the weather situation over Central Europe. This will cause unsettled and cool weather in Germany, both today and over the upcoming Pentecost weekend. Isolated thunderstorms are expected, accompanied by stormy gusts that can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h. Particularly on the coasts and at higher altitudes, there are sometimes even severe gusts of wind up to force 10.
A change between rain and short thunderstorms is also forecast for today. The maximum values are between 19 and 24 degrees, with temperatures near the North Sea being around 17 degrees. A fresh, strongly gusty southwesterly wind will also shape the weather conditions. On Saturday, according to the weather report, showers and thunderstorms are possible in northwest Germany, which can be stronger in places.
Weather forecast for Pentecost
The weather forecast for Whit Sunday shows that the far south-east could be rainy to start, while the rest of the country is expected to see a mix of sun, clouds and showers. Maximum temperatures vary from 14 degrees in the west and northwest to 22 degrees in the east. A fresh westerly wind will also cause stormy gusts near the showers.
On Whit Monday, a cloudy picture will emerge: in the north and center of Germany, isolated showers with temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees can be expected, while the south and southwest will have sunny periods. The maximum values there could be between 17 and 22 degrees. Further clouds and occasional rain are expected in the north on Tuesday night, while it will often remain clear in the south.
Taking these weather conditions into account, citizens in Saarland and beyond have to prepare for a rather changeable Whitsun weekend. A final decision about the summer remains to be seen, but the optimistic forecasts could soon become reality if the high from northern Italy takes effect.
