On May 31, 2025, the third stage of the 15th International Raiffeisen Upper Austria Tour took place, which led from Bad Schallerbach to Aigen/Schlägl. The Mexican professional cyclist Edgar David Cadena, riding for Team Petrolike, took victory after an excellent performance over 141.1 kilometers in a time of 3 hours, 22 minutes and 9 seconds.
Cadena prevailed with a narrow lead of just 4 seconds over the Belgian Aaron Dockx from the Alpecin Deceuninck Development Team. The Tyrolean Marco Schrettl, who finished 6 seconds behind, took 5th place. With this victory, Cadena took the overall lead of the tour with a total time of 7 hours, 43 minutes and 14 seconds.
Race history and important placings
The stage was characterized by exciting racing. Seven riders, including Benjamin Eckerstorfer from the Tirol KTM Cycling Team and Thomas Tichler from WSA KTM Graz, broke away early. However, these breakaways were caught just 10 kilometers from the finish. Marco Schrettl was the best Austrian of the day and is in fourth place in the overall standings, 20 seconds behind Cadena.
Other notable placings were those of Giacomo Ballabio (Hrinkow Advarics), Philipp Hofbauer (WSA KTM Graz) and Colin Stüssi (Vorarlberg), who took places 6 to 8. Riccardo Zoidl finished the stage in 13th place and is now 10th in the overall ranking, 28 seconds behind the leader.
Outlook for the coming stages
The decision about the tour victory will probably be made tomorrow when we arrive at the Höss in Hinterstoder. The 4th stage on June 1, 2025 will start at the Paneum in St. Florian/Asten and will cover 132.3 kilometers with a total elevation gain of 2,570 meters. The final finish involves a climb of 9.8 kilometers with an average gradient of 8.4 percent, which means an elevation gain of around 1,000 meters.
Edgar David Cadena, born on August 20, 2000 in Mexico City, is 24 years old, 1.70 m tall and weighs 63 kg. He has covered an impressive 3147km in the last 24 days, bringing him to a total of 11 PCS points and 20 UCI points.
