Art and nature: special exhibition starts at Homburg Castle!
With the special exhibition “NEW Access” in Homburg Castle, the Oberberg Art Collection presents current acquisitions and thus provides an insight into the diverse development of the collection. This was announced today, June 5, 2025. The exhibition is dedicated to the latest additions to the collection, which date from 2006 to 2013 and have not previously been accessible to the public. The works are in an exciting dialogue with existing sculptures in the art collection.
District director and head of the cultural department Klaus Grootens commented on the importance of the art collection, which now includes around 200 works. This collection reflects a wide spectrum, ranging from naturalism to expressionism to digital art. Grootens also emphasized the importance of artists in the Oberbergischer Kreis and stated that, despite financial restrictions, cultural work in the region should continue to be supported.
Accompanying program and events
A diverse accompanying program is offered to accompany the exhibition. The workshop “Broken Wood – collecting and designing with broken wood” will take place on June 15, 2025 and will be led by Manuele Klein. This workshop is aimed at the whole family and offers the opportunity to collect materials in the nature around Homburg Castle and create individual collages and small objects. In addition, insights into the work “NUR N(AT)UR NUR” by Manuele Klein are provided.
The music event with Daphna Koll will take place on June 29, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. She presents her graphic scores and addresses the relationship between drawing and music. A special highlight will be the interpretation of the scores by Martin Schröder with his bassoon. Further information about the events and tickets can be found at www.schloss-homburg.de.
Discussion and exchange
As part of the exhibition, a dialogue took place between curator Silke Engel and the artist Peter Leidig, which shed light on the beginnings of the artist group “Pro Solo” in Gummersbach since 1989. Leidig describes the art collection as a store of energy that should be updated regularly and include younger artists. The discussion about art purchases in times of tight budgets was also very well received and shows the dynamic cultural energy in the Oberberg studios.
The exhibition can be viewed until May 21, 2023 and also offers guided tours that are free of charge. Guided tours take place on March 19th, May 7th (at 12 p.m.) and May 21st at 1 p.m. For information and registration, please call 0 2293/91 01 71 and email muspaed@obk.de.
The comprehensive presentation of new acquisitions and cultural activities impressively presents the diversity of the region's art landscape and promotes dialogue about art and its importance for society.
