Tariff increase in 2025: More money in sight for workers and trainees!

In the Rhineland-Palatinate stone and earth industry, new collective bargaining regulations will come into force, which will result in a 3.1 percent increase in wages from July 1, 2025. This was announced today as negotiations for the 2025 collective bargaining round progress. In addition, the training allowance will be increased disproportionately by 75 euros per year of training for the first time, which will particularly benefit the approximately 230,000 trainees who will benefit from this innovation. According to igbau.de, these regulations are designed to run for 24 months.

The agreement also stipulates that there will be a further increase in fees of 3.0 percent on August 1, 2026. In addition, a one-off payment of 100 euros will be introduced for all employees subject to social insurance contributions in employment relationships that have not been terminated at the same time. The one-off payment is also granted on a pro rata basis for part-time employees, while trainees are exempt from this regulation.

Training allowances and starting fees

An important aspect of these collective agreements concerns the regulations for trainees. From July 1, 2025, trainees who are taken on by the company after training will be exempt from a possible reduction in their starting salary. However, this starting fee will continue to be reduced by ten percent for external hires.

In addition, igmetall-leipzig.de reports that a collective agreement was reached for employees in the metal and electrical industries, which also affects training allowances. These will be permanently increased by 140 euros. Employees can also look forward to a one-off payment of 600 euros on February 1, 2025. Permanent wage increases of 2.0 percent are already planned from April 1, 2025, followed by a further increase of 3.1 percent from April 1, 2026.

Additional exemption options

The new regulations also include improvements in terms of exemption options. Employees, including part-time workers, will in future be able to take up to five days off work to attend to childcare or care. These measures are intended to make it easier to combine work and family and thus increase the attractiveness of the industry.

Both collective agreements, for the stone and earth industry as well as for the metal and electrical industry, show that the collective bargaining partners are prepared to respond to the needs of employees and to sustainably improve working conditions. It remains to be seen how the economic environment will develop in order to continue this positive trend, especially in view of a possible deviation in the event of economic difficulties.
