Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis: New bus routes ensure better local transport!

From next Sunday, June 11, 2025, the bus service in the Rhein-Pfalz district will be significantly improved. Loud SWR Many of the existing bus connections will now be offered every 30 or 60 minutes on Sundays and public holidays. District Administrator Clemens Körner (CDU) describes these innovations as a “powerful impulse for local transport”.

In order to realize these improvements, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate provides 2.5 million euros annually. In some communities, the existing bus service is even being doubled. Particularly worth mentioning is the new line 584, which connects Dannstadt-Schauernheim with Schifferstadt, where passengers have direct access to the S-Bahn.

Important bus routes and new connections

The key bus lines that will benefit from the changes include lines 570 (Altrip - Ludwigshafen), 571 (Haßloch - Dannstadt - Mutterstadt - Ludwigshafen) and 572 (Speyer - Otterstadt - Waldsee - Ludwigshafen). These lines will now operate more frequently and will run at least until 11 p.m. There are also new connections from Böhl via Gronau, Assenheim, Hochdorf and Rödersheim to Gönnheim and from Schifferstadt to Dannstadt-Schauernheim.

“DB Regio Bus Mitte”, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, has won the Europe-wide tender and will replace the Palatina company in the future. The transport contract with “DB Regio Bus Mitte” runs for 15 years, and a total of 80 new buses will be used, including twelve electric minibuses. These buses are equipped with air conditioning, more seats, free WiFi and USB sockets.

Improvements in Speyer's city traffic

A new set of routes will also be introduced in Speyer, which will significantly improve bus transport in the city. This is based on information from Rhine-Palatinate district out. By reassigning the line bundle, the area of the southern industrial area and the eastern area of Auestrasse will be opened up for the first time, which will strengthen the connection to local public transport.

A notable aspect is the introduction of a 15-minute service in large parts of the city and the doubling of the number of trips available. From December 10th to 17th, 2023 you will have the opportunity to get to know the new offer free of charge, including lines 561-569.

In this context, Mayor Stefanie Seiler emphasizes citizen participation and the environmental friendliness of the new offer. The full switch to electric buses for the entire city bus fleet is planned by summer 2025, underlining efforts to make local transport more sustainable.
