Bodenheim: Louisa Klein wins bronze at the Rhineland-Palatinate Championships!
Last weekend the Rhineland-Palatinate Championships in gymnastics took place in the Bodenheim gymnasium on Bürgel. Among the participants were athletes from the Palatinate, Rheinhessen and Middle Rhine regional associations, who competed against each other in a demanding competition. The weather was very humid, which made the gymnasts' concentration and athletic performance much more difficult. Louisa Klein and Linett Lorenz represented VT Zweibrücken, while Melina Gab from VT Niederauerbach also took part in the competition.
The trainer and department head of VT Zweibrücken, Sonja Rayer, commented on the conditions during the competition. Rayer's supervisor reported the difficulties associated with the waiting and the temperatures, as these factors greatly influenced the athletes' nerves and performance. The apparatus on which the competitors performed gymnastics included vault, floor, uneven bars and balance beam.
Successes of the participants
Louisa Klein from VT Zweibrücken managed to reach third place and thus showed a remarkable performance at the championships. Her success is not only a result of her talent, but also the intensive preparation she has enjoyed over the past few months.
The Bodenheim performance center, which has existed under the umbrella of the Rheinhessischer Turnerbund (RhTB) since 2017, meets all the criteria for competitive sports. According to a report from lsb-rlp.de, the center has federal and state squads as well as more than half a dozen C, B and A trainers. These dedicated coaches are crucial to the development of the athletes and help maintain the high standards of gymnastics.
Optimal conditions for development
The “Im Bürgel” gymnasium, which was inaugurated in 2019, is considered an optimal training location for young talents in gymnastics. State Secretary for Sports Randolf Stich emphasized the importance of such facilities for competitive sports. The Rheinhessischer Turnerbund invests 35,000 euros annually in the area of female gymnastics, which corresponds to around 20% of the income from membership fees. These investments aim to develop top female athletes in Rheinhessen and to focus on the federal squad and national elite.
The RhTB's competitive sports representative and state trainer, Kerstin Sinsel, coordinates the competitive sports activities in female gymnastics in coordination with other relevant institutions. However, the challenge associated with sharing the halls with the university could hamper efforts to maintain optimal conditions.
