The incident happened around 10:40 p.m., between the “Mersch” and “Grousselerbierg” tunnels. A wrong-way driver was traveling north, but in the opposite direction to the south.

This dangerous misstep led to a head-on collision with another car. Despite all efforts, the driver from Wiltz could not be saved and died at the scene of the accident. Localo reported that the wrong-way driver was seriously injured and was immediately taken to hospital.

Accident recording and traffic disruptions

The police measurement and identification service was quickly on site to secure the traces of the accident. Both vehicles were confiscated on the order of the public prosecutor. The A7 motorway was completely closed in the north direction between Lorentzweiler and Mersch until around 4:30 a.m. in order to carry out the necessary investigations and secure the scene of the accident. The closure caused significant traffic delays on this section of the highway.

The exact circumstances of the accident are currently unclear and police are conducting further investigations. Lesseniel highlights that this incident represents a serious traffic accident that draws attention to the dangers of wrong-way driving.

The tragedy of this accident and the loss of a human life once again demonstrate how important road safety is. In such moments, it is crucial to increase driver awareness and make them aware of how quickly accidents can happen.
