Sankt Wendel goes digital: The innovative app meinWND for all citizens!

The Sankt Wendel district has launched the meinWND app, a new digital tool for its citizens. This platform brings together numerous offers and information that are intended to enrich the daily lives of residents. District Administrator Udo Recktenwald emphasizes the importance of digital solutions to improve the quality of life in the region. The app is part of the comprehensive Smart Wendeler Land project, a digitization project that aims to promote citizens' sense of home and make the district more livable.

The meinWND app contains a variety of practical functions. Users can access a cross-community events calendar, current news and a collection calendar with reminder function. The app also provides information on dining options, accommodation options and leisure activities. These features were developed in citizen workshops, whereby residents were actively involved in the design process.

Participation and development

The development of the meinWND app took place as part of an intensive citizen participation process. 96 citizens were active in choosing the name, which lasted until March 7, 2023, of which 51 voted for the name meinWND. This participation shows the effort to put the needs of the residents first. After the platform was presented on February 7, 2023, meinWND is now not only used as an app, but also serves as a digital project platform for the district. Here, users can find information about Smart Wendeler Land projects, initiate surveys and actively participate in the digital design of the district.

The Smart Wendeler Land is funded by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). Around 17.5 million euros in funding will be available by the end of 2027, with the region's own contribution being 10 percent. This significant investment is intended to sustainably improve the quality of life in the district and increase regional added value.

The meinWND app is free Apple App Store and in Google Play Store available. The app receives support from the population, who are actively interested in the design and use of digital offerings.
