Discover the fascinating treasures of the Stone Age in the local museum!

In the small town of Hemmersdorf, which is located outside the center of Rehlingen-Siersburg, the local history museum is attracting more and more visitors. The museum, which is easy to find thanks to good signage, was founded on the private initiative of Engelbert Cavelius, who is the owner of both the site and the building. Norbert Bettinger, the first chairman, and Siegfried Kiefer, the managing director, are available as contacts to give guests an insight into the regional treasures. The Saarbrücker Zeitung reports that the spacious design of the site includes both the museum itself and the exhibition areas.

Since April 2006, a registered association has been the sponsor of the Hemmersdorf Local History Museum, which emerged from the private initiative of the Cavelius family. The buildings, which were previously used for agricultural purposes, have been carefully converted into exhibition areas. The Saarlouis club pitch describes the variety of exhibits shown by the museum. The collections include numerous agricultural and household implements as well as items typical of the region, which provide important insights into the everyday history of the region.

Diverse exhibitions

The archaeological collections of Johannes Monter and Hubert Regnery, supplemented by their loans, form the center of the exhibition. The focus includes not only geology and fossils of the Niedtal, but also early historical finds and experimental archaeology. Visitors can marvel at replicas of Stone Age work tools and weapons.

The outdoor area of the local history museum is also a highlight: agricultural machinery as well as distilling and pressing equipment are on display here. Models of historical buildings made by the Paul Cavelius family complete the picture. A field forge, a bread oven and a beekeeping expand the range of exhibition space and offer visitors an authentic experience.

Events and temporary exhibitions

A special feature of the local museum is the large, multifunctional event room, which has been available since 2009. This room is not only used for events, but also for temporary exhibitions, which further increase the attractiveness of the museum. Corrected numerous finds from different eras make the museum a lively place of learning and offer interesting insights into the history of the region.
