Looking back at St. Louis' successes brings a long history in collegiate soccer into play. SLU has an impressive sports tradition in which the men's team has been active in NCAA Division I for over 60 years and has already won 10 national championships. The Billikens won the championship in the first NCAA Tournament, held in 1959, marking the beginning of a dominant period in men's soccer.
The men's soccer team's successes have been accompanied by numerous alumni over the years, including over 100 professional players and 50 All-Americans. Women's soccer was introduced at SLU in 1996 and has also achieved notable success in its first 25 years, including six NCAA Tournament appearances. Coach Katie Shields has made significant progress with her team since 2013, including winning the 2022 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship.
The Iowa Hawkeyes now look ahead to their next game against Iowa State, which will take place on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. CT at the UI Soccer Complex. The team's motivation and performance will be crucial to remain competitive.
