The weather situation remains tense in the Southern Palatinate. According to the current reporting from pfalz-express.de, the continuous rain has so far had little impact in the districts, although in the Südliche Weinstraße district and in the city of Landau in particular, no weather-related operations by the fire brigades were necessary until Friday, 1 p.m. Nevertheless, there are reports of a roof structure in Freisbach catching fire after a lightning strike and of flooded streets in Büchelberg, where the fire brigade was on duty.
Flood warnings
District Administrator Dietmar Seefeldt from the Southern Wine Route and his colleagues, including Christoph Buttweiler, representative for District Administrator Dr. Fritz Brechtel from Germersheim, as well as Mayor Dr. Dominik Geißler, have warned urgently about the risk of flooding. Fire and disaster control inspectors such as Jens Thiele (SÜW), Mike Schönlaub (GER) and Stefan Krauch (LD) are monitoring the situation closely and exchanging information regularly. The levels at Lauter and Wieslauter are rising, which could result in the possibility of a 100-year flood (HQ 100).
Residents are urged to keep their distance from bodies of water. No major flooding is expected for the Queich on Friday afternoon, but the State Office for the Environment estimates the risk of a one- to five-year flood. The risk of slipping on the banks of the Queich represents an additional threat. In contrast, there is no threatening flood situation on the Rhine, even if local flooding in small bodies of water or ditches cannot be ruled out.
In addition, Sparkasse Südpfalz has warned of a current fraud scam, although no damage has been found in the business area so far. This information highlights the need for residents in the region to remain vigilant while dealing with weather conditions.
