Serious accident on the A8: Two injured in a crash between vans!
A serious traffic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Leonberg-West junction on the A8. A VW Crafter and a VW Caddy were affected. The incident took place around 2:40 p.m. when a 74-year-old man lost control of his VW Crafter for unknown reasons and crashed into the VW Caddy from Luxembourg. Due to the force of the impact, both vehicles were thrown off the road and only came to a stop on the entrance to the motorway.
There were two people in the VW Caddy, aged 70 and 67, who were slightly injured. In contrast, there were several senior citizens between the ages of 59 and 74 in the VW Crafter, and two of them were seriously injured. A total of ten people were affected in the accident.
Rescue measures and traffic violations
The injured were given immediate first aid on site before they were taken to surrounding hospitals. Due to the accident, the accident site was cordoned off over a large area, meaning that the exit and entrance to the junction had to be completely closed. Several patrol cars, numerous rescue vehicles and the fire department were deployed for the rescue work.
The cause of the accident is still unclear and it remains to be seen whether further investigations will follow. The towing measures initiated immediately after the incident resulted in both damaged vehicles being removed from the scene of the accident. The traffic situation could only be normalized after the measures were completed, which led to further delays in local traffic flow.
