Shock in the evening: Burglars caught red-handed in Esch/Alzette!
Several break-ins have occurred in Luxembourg in recent weeks, causing fear and terror among residents. On Friday evening, June 28, 2025, a resident of an apartment building in Esch/Alzette was woken from her sleep when she was woken up by suspicious noises. While checking her apartment, she encountered a burglar who had already damaged the apartment door. The perpetrator immediately fled when he was discovered. Despite an immediate search by the police, the investigation was initially unsuccessful. In this context, investigations were also started to clarify further background information.
Further alarming reports come from Bonneweg, where a burglar alarm was triggered in a single-family home around 3:00 a.m. Unknown perpetrators broke a window, which activated the alarm system. However, during the subsequent check by the police, no one could be found in the house. Here too, investigations are continuing to catch the perpetrators and ensure the safety of citizens.
Previous incidents
In addition to these incidents, the police arrested two suspected shoplifters in Mersch on Saturday afternoon, whose stolen goods were seized and returned. Another incident also occurred on Friday when two suspects were caught stealing a gold necklace at Luxembourg-Pfaffenthal train station. Both are known to the police due to previous crimes.
Another incident occurred early Sunday morning: an inebriated woman was noticed in a parking lot on Rue du Fort Neipperg. The police were able to prevent her from getting behind the wheel. After the officers left, the woman insulted the police officers and attacked an officer. She was overpowered and taken to the police station, where criminal proceedings were initiated for insulting and physically assaulting law enforcement officers.
The security situation in Luxembourg raises questions and the police are called upon to protect citizens from further break-ins and criminal activity.
