Neo-Nazi march in Berlin: Massive counter-protests are imminent!
On June 1, 2025, right-wing extremist groups are planning another march in Berlin. Led by the “Deutsche Jugend Voran” and the “Gerschen Jugend”, the organizers have announced their meeting for 1 p.m. from the Schillingstrasse subway station. The parade follows a route through several districts of Berlin, including Karl-Marx-Allee and Rosenthaler Platz, and is scheduled to officially begin at 1:45 p.m. How berlin-against-nazis.de reported that the mobilization for this march began at 1 p.m.
Counter-demonstrations are also organized. The protest will begin at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz at 12:30 p.m., while the demonstrators are scheduled to meet at the corner of Brunnenstrasse and Invalidenstrasse at 1:30 p.m. The mobilizations are to be understood as a direct response to the announcement by Ferhat Sentürk, who initially planned to demonstrate in Berlin-Friedrichshain, but has since canceled his event.
Context and reactions
The “Gersche Jugend” is reacting to Sentürk's original announcement with its march, and the person who registered the counter-event is a well-known actor from this environment. Already on March 22, 2025, the applicant was involved in a right-wing extremist march in Berlin, which took place with around 900 participants and had to be broken off by a massive counter-protest movement. At this demonstration, around 2,000 counter-demonstrators mobilized to block the neo-Nazi demonstration, leading to an increased police presence, with around 1,600 officers deployed, including forces from Bavaria and Bremen.
The clashes resulted in arrests and injuries. The police recorded 90 arrests, including 41 for right-wing and 31 for left-wing crimes. The aggressive mood of the past demonstrations indicates ongoing tensions in dealing with right-wing extremist activities. There have already been conflicts between police officers and demonstrators, in which pepper spray was also used by the police.
Beware of violence
The registrations of counter-protests are supported by various organizations, including “OMAS AGAINST THE RIGHT”. They are planning a rally at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and another at the corner of Brunnenstrasse and Invalidenstrasse. The police also warn of small, violent groups that could potentially isolate themselves from the main demonstration. A special focus is also on a right-wing extremist activist from Austria who will take part in another counter-protest in Lichterfelde-Ost at 2 p.m.
The planned meeting on June 1st continues a worrying development that is increasingly polarizing the social mood in Berlin. The challenges posed by extremist groups and the decisive response from civil society remain a central issue in the capital, as well rbb24.de has reported.
