St. Wendel: Reader photographer inspires with unique underwater photo!
In April, a reader of the Saarbrücker Zeitung won the Picture of the Month competition with her impressive photo “Dive”. This month's theme was “Aquatic Animals,” and the underwater image impressed the jury with several highlights. The ten active members of the photo club who evaluated the picture particularly emphasized the unusual location, the sharpness and the successful image design. Michael Dorscheid, jury member, found the interesting reflection of a turtle on the surface of the water particularly successful, which gave the photo a special depth. Saarbrücker Zeitung reports that eleven reader photos were available to choose from.
In these creative competitions, photo club members have access to various topics that change from month to month. In May, the theme “Newspapers and News” was chosen, in keeping with World Press Freedom Day on May 3rd. The future months will bring more exciting topics such as “Some like it hot” in June or “Joy” in July. Interesting topics have also been announced for the following months, including “In the Library” in November and “Roses, Lilies & Orchids” in December to celebrate Hildegard Knef's 100th birthday.
International recognition for underwater photography
For the 13th time, the best underwater photos of the year have been honored by the renowned specialist portal “The Underwater Photography Guide”. The Ocean Art 2024 competition received thousands of entries from 90 countries, which were judged in 14 different categories, including wide angle, macro and marine conservation. Particularly notable was the excellent photo “Dancing White Tips” by Eduardo Labat, which was highlighted as the best photo of the year. GEO has published the ten favorites in a photo gallery that shows the impressive diversity of life in the oceans.
Continuing such competitions, both locally and internationally, helps raise awareness about protecting the oceans and their creatures. Members of the photo clubs can upload their work via the homepage, although each participant is only allowed to submit one photo per month. This platform makes it possible to show creativity and technical skills while promoting interest in environmental issues.
The competition impressively shows how photography as an art form can create a connection to nature and its preservation, both underwater and in our everyday images. Stay tuned for the upcoming topics and the creative works that will follow.
