Graffiti workshop in Saarlouis: Young talents design space!
An impressive graffiti workshop recently took place in Saarlouis, organized by Oliver Kirch, the market manager of Globus Saarlouis, and YOU, the youth office of the European city of Saarlouis. The workshop, led by Colin Kaesekamp aka “Cone The Weird”, a renowned street artist, used the old Globus parking deck as a creative space. This parking deck is scheduled to be demolished later this year, which made the event even more significant. The theme of the workshop was “space” and the participants, including Mayor Carsten Quirin, were young talents who wanted to develop artistically.
The workshop aimed to not only train participants in the art of graffiti, but also to raise awareness about the protection of historical buildings. The young artists received a crash course in using spray cans, first learned to sketch their motifs with chalk and then implemented their designs on the parking deck. Everyone got involved with enthusiasm and a total work of art was created that received a lot of positive feedback.
Catering and organization
Oliver Kirch took care of the physical well-being of the participants by donating cold drinks and meat and cheese pastries. This contributed to the relaxed atmosphere of the workshop, which encouraged creative work and supported collaborative work.
More graffiti projects
Students from the media design department took part in another graffiti workshop that took place at Ostkreuz. This workshop focused on “Graffiti and Writing on Walls” and included both a guided tour and practical exercises. Part of a wall was whitewashed to serve as a creative canvas for the students. Under guidance, participants were able to create their own works of art using spray bottles and classic stencils. This workshop was also an interesting end to the year for the students, who dealt with art in a new way. mygraffitiworkshop.de reports on the positive experiences of the participants.
Overall, it shows that graffiti workshops not only offer a platform for artistic development, but also help to increase awareness of urban culture and its historical significance. The response from participants and the creation of total works of art underline the value of such events in the community.
