New elections and exciting projects – Illingen Historical Association in focus!
The Illingen Historical Association e.V. met on May 27, 2025 for its general meeting, which was opened by chairman Hans Jürgen Konopka. The meeting had a quorum and traditionally began with a tribute to the dead. After this, it was time to take a look back at the club's past year and appreciate the work of the board. Konopka thanked the board members and supporters, especially the community, for their valuable support over the past few months. Various special events, including the commemoration of the Reichspogromnacht on November 9, 2024 and the project work with the Arnold Fortuin School on Kerpen Castle, were also presented.
New elections were also held as part of the meeting, covering both the previous period and the year 2023. The club now has 25 members, although the addition of younger club members has reduced the average age. Despite the successes, the association faces challenges, particularly with regard to its location in the former elementary school, where a move to another room was necessary. The new space in the Lehnschule will only be a temporary solution, as part of the school is scheduled to be demolished in 2026. The hope for a communal “House of Clubs” in Illingen remains.
New board team elected
After the treasurer's report and the financial audit, the board was discharged. The new elections were led by honorary chairman Toni Schröder, with Hans Jürgen Konopka as first chairman, Hans Buchholz as second chairman, Raimund Hinsberger as treasurer and Wolfgang Troitzsch as secretary. Other assessors are Thomas Krämer, Wolfgang Thom, Claudia Hussong and Dr. Armin Schmidt. The newly elected chairman Konopka promised to preserve Illingen's historical heritage and to actively involve the members.
This meeting represented a deep turning point, as the first chairman Toni Schröder, who had played an important role in the club and in the community, resigned from his position. He received much recognition for his achievements, including the creation of the website and various projects initiated during his tenure. The commitment of his successor Konopka with the aim of further expanding the website, attracting new members and intensifying project work is promising for the future of the association.
An outlook on the coming months shows that the Illingen Historical Association is facing exciting but also challenging tasks. Thanks to the planned activities, which are intended to actively involve all members, the association is well on the way to further expanding its offering and its visibility in the community. In this context, the focus will also be on the long-term project orientation in order to preserve the cultural history and heritage of Illingen.
